2017 Preview | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Greene County finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 3-6 record. Last year Greene County finished sixth in Class 3A region four with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Tigers have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2011 season and would love to end that streak this year. The Tigers last playoff victory came during the 2000 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Greene County was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Tigers want to be competitive. They only averaged 16.2 points a game. The Tigers would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-15 record. Since 2010, Greene County has gone a combined 22-48. Their 31.0% winning percentage ranks 46th in Class 3A over the past seven seasons. Over the past 17 seasons, Greene County has managed to compile a record of 68-105. Their 39.0% winning percentage ranks 46th in Class 3A and 289th in the AHSAA. The Tigers are led by head coach Gentrall Eatman who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 8-20 over the past three seasons at Greene County. The Tigers have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Eatman. Coach Eatman's overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 8-20 (28.6%). The Greene County Tigers will play in Class 3A region four during the 2017 season. The Tigers enter the 2017 season in the middle of a 6 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. It will be an uphill battle for the Tigers if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region four this season. The Tigers open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent R.C. Hatch on Friday, September 1. Last year the R.C. Hatch Bobcats finished with an overall record of 5-6 and in fourth place in Class 2A region four. The Bobcats lost in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs to Elba by a score of 40-8. Greene County and R.C. Hatch have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 4-0-0 record against the Bobcats. They last met in 2016 with Greene County winning by a score of 26-24. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
